Tuesday, September 10th, 2013Once again, the six-piece Jazz Band Sonyx kept the crowds grooving along at the Annual ‘Chef’s Best’ Dinner & Auction to benefit Food & Friends. The packed ballroom at the Washington Hilton found no shortage of food and drinks from savory to sweet to enjoy. These seasoned musicians performed a wide variety of jazz band selections, from dixieland, bebop, swing, cool jazz, and contemporary selections. Sonyx consists of trumpet, saxophone, piano, guitar, bass, and drums. These seasoned professionals have been performing in the DC area for over 20 years, for a variety of events with a variety of music styles.

Music Entertainment for a Corporate Dine Around in DC

Music entertainment for a corporate event in DC involved not one, but thirteen different locations, simultaneously. The variety of music entertainment included five soloists (piano, guitar, DJ), one jazz duo, five jazz trios, and four classical trios. Support staff included four on-site coordinators brilliantly maneuvering amongst the sites, along with several audio support staff. The sites included:
- American Pharmacists Association Foundation
- Anderson House
- Folger Shakespeare Library
- Library of Congress
- Lincoln’s Cottage
- National Archives
- National Portrait Gallery
- National Press Club
- Renwick Gallery
- Smithsonian Castle
- Smithsonian Museum of American History
- Smithsonian Museum of Natural History
- Museum of Women in the Arts
As you can imagine, logistics for this type of an event with various music entertainment groups are extensive:
- Security information needed to be completed and submitted several days in advance.
- Most locations required audio support, with over 20 staff on-site for set-up and monitoring the events.
- All events started at 5:30PM, during the peak of rush hour.
- Parking details at each site were arranged and confirmed.
- Equipment load-in details sometimes included loading-in the previous day, with a secure storage room arranged.
- Equipment arriving day of and thru a loading dock at each site was scheduled with several vendors sharing the loading dock.
- Electrical access at historic sites can be challenging; we were prepared with extra equipment and accessories available.
The music entertainment was enjoyed by all and was the ‘Life of the Celebration’ at each site.

Loudoun Chamber Award 2012–Home Based Business of the Year

On November 9th, 2012, at the National Conference Center, Leesburg, VA, for the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce Small Business Awards Ceremony, Olivera Music Entertainment was honored to receive the Loudoun Chamber Award for the 2012 Small Business ‘Home Based Business of the Year Award’. The Loudoun Chamber, the largest in Northern Virginia, boasts over 1,100 members, with over 800 of these members considered Small Business members, including 270 members as Home Based. For the 2012 awards, the Chamber received 347 nominations, which were narrowed down to 39 finalists in ten categories. Each Finalist received a Loudoun Chamber Award recognition plaque while guests enjoyed a compilation video for each company, produced by Mesh Multimedia. Enjoy the video:
Olivera Music Entertainment joined the Loudoun Chamber in March of 1990, and has seen the population in Loudoun County expand from 86,000 residents that year to over 340,000 today.

We received an 'ESPRIT Award' from the International Special Events Society for 'Best ISES Team Effort, Budget over $200,000', an international award which draws entries from the 52 ISES chapters around the world.
